Where Students Dream, Believe and Do

A Superficial Reality / Jason Pagel

Jason Pagel was our third speaker for
Spiritual Emphasis Week in High School chapel on Wednesday

Jason Pagel spoke on Wednesday about A Superficial Reality? The theme for the week was "Demolishing Strongholds" from 2 Corinthians 10. Jason utilized verse 7 which reads, "You are looking only on the surface of things. If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as he."

Jason emphasized how we tend to spend our time and energy on the surface/material things and miss deeper truths and realities about ourselves, the world, and God. He also explained how this affects our lives and influences how we react to negative circumstances--how this can become a stronghold. He claimed that one of the most deceptive and insidious strongholds from Satan is the attempt to make us believe that only what happens on the surface matters.

Jason also described the mystery and majesty of God as an acorn that grows into a large tree. He said the growth happens because of what happens beneath the surface. We too can be a tree planted by the water (Psalm 1) that is not moved by the storms of life because we are rooted in God's power.
