A Learning Moment

Periodically we will highlight one of the
many "learning moments" in or outside the classroom
at Nashville Christian School. Check them out...

Student Theologians
in the making?

Apparently so. These students recited all the books of the Bible during chapel last week. (l-r) Amber Biship, Leanna Batson, Emily Batty, Catie Palmer,  Grayson Maddox, Jett Johnson and Roger Sauls.

They are Ready to SHOW IT,
Everyone in Class is Now a POET.

Mrs. Conner’s 4th Grade class just finished studying a unit on poetry. They learned (and you probably heard :-) about: haikus, cinquains, couplets, pyramids, acrostics, and many other forms of poetry. On friday of that week everyone was “digging” a Groovy Poetry Reading in a “Cocoa House” setting . Students read original poems in “far out” hats and “cool” glasses while sipping cocoa.

You Have to Watch the Students
Digging into Owl Pellets Video!

Dissecting Owl Pellets!

Fourth graders will spend a week (October 24-27) dissecting owl pellets to determine what the owls ate. Owl pellets consist of hair and bones that are indigestible. The owl periodically regurgitates a pellet that contains the hair and bones from it's last few meals. Students will dissect the pellets and collect as many bones as they can. Then they will reconstruct a skeleton and determine that their owls feasted on voles! The vole skeletons are currently on display in the LS hallway. Quote of the day—”This is totally awesome and totally disgusting at the same time!”

Last Week, the NCS Flight Club
had its First Meeting.

Groups of students assembled after school to be challenged academically with fun, interactive educational activities. One group of 1st and 2nd graders learned how to use microscopes. Another group used Ipads to play with words. Third through fifth graders spent time learning about Pearl Harbor and conquering challenging puzzles. Flight Club will continue to meet through the months of October and November. We'd like to thank our Flight Club Leaders: Mrs. Shelton, Mrs. Randell, Mrs. Sexton, and Mrs. Demonbreun. We'd also like to thank our 7th and 8th grade Flight Instructors who assisted students with activities: Sonja Shelton and Forrest Matlock.

The Way of the Scien-test.

Fourth graders Elliot Stob and Roger Sauls learn about the scientific method by by building clay boats and testing how many coins they held before sinking. Their participation was part of a larger class experiment where students, in Wendy Conner's 4th grade class hypothesized whether a narrow boat or a wide boat would hold more—then they put their guesses to the test! Groups discovered that the wide boats held more coins. One boat held 50!
