Ms. Tracy with Deborah Williams,
a former ECLC grandparent
ECLC families responded with over 200 gifts, with only 3 days notice, to an emergency need in Jellico, Tennessee. Our Father’s House Appalachian Ministry put out a call for help—there was no money to provide enough Christmas presents for the many children in that impoverished area. Ms. Tracy, a prekindergarten instructor, teamed up with ECLC families and collected enough gifts to ensure that each child would have at least two Christmas presents. MAPCO, a corporate sponsor, contributed $1,000 to the cause. Ms. Tracy, along with several local volunteers, arrived in Jellico at 3:00 AM Friday—just in time to ensure that the children from this Appalachian region had gifts to open and toys to play with.
That week, while organizing and collecting the toys, Ms. Tracy’s ECLC PreK class was learning the song "Go Tell It On The Mountain.” She recalled a PreK student coming up to her and asking, "Ms. Tracy, are you going to GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN?" Ms. Tracy said, “That was truly a God thing.”
