Where Students Dream, Believe and Do

Mike Campbell, Chairman

Mike Campbell, born and raised in West Nashville, is a parent, board member (for 19 years), and alumnus (Class of ’79.) Even though the Campbell name is well known and respected within the NCS community, not many are aware of the depth of sacrifice and support Mike and his family have given to NCS over the years. “I am very comfortable living under the radar,” he confesses—at no surprise to those who know him. However, Mike and the rest of the NCS Board agree it is time to talk about the “elephant in the living room” —(our school’s debt) and what’s being done about it.

Much has been accomplished since the fall of 2008 when Daryl Demonbreun met with a large group of concerned parents in the HS gym to discuss the aftermath from NCS President David Vester’s resignation. Through commitment and personal investment the board, administration and staff have achieved the following:

  • Virtually eliminated prior administration’s debt,
  • Hired a new CFO who reports directly to the board
  • Reined in expenses through a rigorous accounting, spending, and reporting system
  • Vastly improved the collections process
  • Strengthened financial relationships
  • Implemented accountability procedures

“It has been hard—all budgets were cut way back,” Mike recalls. “We are so grateful to those who have hung in there and maintained quality while doing with less. I feel better today about our finances than I ever have, but we need to maintain the momentum. Our goals include: increase enrollment to 600, eliminate all debt, and establish an endowment fund.”

“With the current President in charge of the day-to-day operations, along with the Board’s oversight, we are in a good position to achieve these goals,” Mike states. “Our budget is balanced and virtually self-sustaining—a rare accomplishment for private schools today. Even so, NCS is reliant upon a vital working partnership among faculty, staff, parents, and volunteers in order to nurture and sustain a quality Christian school environment.”

"I along with the rest of the Board are committed, both personally and financially, to Nashville Christian School. We support its mission to demonstrate Christ’s love through education, service and worship. We share in its vision to help students realize and pursue their full potential spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially—while learning to be secure in the knowledge of God. Together we can accomplish our goals—for God and our children.”
